President and CEO, Staff


Betsy Whitaker Covington joined the Community Foundation in 2001 and has since worked alongside the board and staff to lead efforts to fulfill the organization’s mission.

Previously, Betsy served for over ten years as the director of development for the Columbus Museum, where she was responsible for the museum’s efforts in fundraising, membership and audience development.

A native of Columbus, Betsy is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a degree in communications. She has served as president of the Georgia Council of Community Foundations and a board member of the Georgia Grantmakers Association, and currently serves on and is a past chair of the Community Foundation Leadership Team for Philanthropy Southeast.

A graduate of Leadership Columbus and Leadership Georgia, Betsy serves as immediate past chair of Columbus 2025, the multi-county area’s comprehensive long-range planning effort, and on the executive committee of Home for Good, the implementation effort for Columbus’ 10-year Plan to Eliminate Homelessness. She is involved in a number of area efforts to better-connect citizens and neighborhoods, both emotionally and physically. She is a past president and a current member of the Rotary Club of Columbus.

Betsy and her husband, Rick, are the parents of two adult children, Becca and Richard.
