Generally, scholarships used for educational costs such as tuition, fees, books, and supplies are not taxable. However, any portion of the scholarship used for room and board or miscellaneous expenses may be taxable. Please be sure to consult a tax professional for further information.

FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is the first step in determining a student’s eligibility for federal, state, and sometimes college financial assistance. There is no charge to complete this document. Go to http://www.fafsa.gov to begin the process.

After your FAFSA form is submitted and processed, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to access an online copy of your FAFSA Submission Summary—an electronic or paper document that summarizes the information you reported on your FAFSA form. It includes your estimated eligibility for a Federal Pell Grant and federal student loans, your Student Aid Index (SAI), and whether you’ve been selected for verification.

The FAFSA Submission Summary is multiple pages. Be sure to provide CFCV with page one only, which should include the Student Aid Index (SAI).

Yes, all scholarship applications require an official copy of an applicant’s transcript. In most cases the transcript will be provided to CFCV by a high school guidance. counselor
