Supporting nonprofits and leveraging the critical work they do in our community is important to us. We are continually learning, too, and strive to offer relevant tools and resources.

20 Things to Know About Operating Your 501(c)(3)

The 20 Things to Know list is not meant to be everything you need to know, nor is it intended to take the place of advice you should receive from your organization’s attorney, CPA, or other professional advisor. This is a highlight list gleaned from CFCV staff’s years of experience in the philanthropic field and nonprofit administration. We hope it’s helpful!

Candid

Every year, millions of nonprofits spend trillions of dollars around the world. Candid finds out where that money comes from, where it goes, and why it matters. Through research, collaboration, and training, Candid connects people who want to change the world to the resources they need to do it.

Candid's data tools on nonprofits, foundations, and grants are the most comprehensive in the world. Foundation Center and GuideStar joined forces to become Candid, a 501c3 nonprofit organization.

Foundation Directory Online

Through an annual grant made by CFCV, Candid's Foundation Directory Online is made available to all area nonprofits via the Columbus Public Library. Nonprofits supercharge their funding searches with Foundation Directory. Use this resource to access detailed data on foundations, including giving history, location, type, size, open requests for proposals (RFPs), and more to determine which funders are the best fit.

Candid Learning

Candid Learning provides live and on-demand trainings, webinars, and other resources to improve your fundraising, overall sustainability, grantmaking, and transparency.

The Georgia Center for Nonprofits

The Georgia Center for Nonprofits aims to build thriving communities by helping nonprofits succeed. Through a powerful mix of advocacy, solutions for nonprofit effectiveness, and insight building tools, GCN provides nonprofits, board members and donors with the tools they need to strengthen organizations that make a difference on important causes throughout Georgia.

National Council of Nonprofits

The National Council of Nonprofits (Council of Nonprofits) is a trusted resource and proven advocate for America’s charitable nonprofits. Connecting the policy dots across all levels and branches of governments, the Council of Nonprofits keeps nonprofits informed and empowered to create a positive public policy environment that best supports nonprofits in advancing their missions.

Starting an Organization Fund at CFCV

A number of area nonprofits have started Organization Funds at CFCV to benefit their organizations or specific aspects of their work. Nonprofits often take advantage of our professional endowment management, freeing their staff and board to concentrate on the organization’s own programs and mission. We would love the opportunity to talk with your nonprofit about establishing an Endowment Fund here at CFCV!
