Background
The Randy Jordan Scholarship was given in memory of Randolph Swift Jordan who attended Jordan High School from 1958 until graduating in 1962. Jordan High School was named for Randy’s great-grandfather, G. Gunby Jordan. During his high school year, Randy was involved in many different clubs: the “J” Club, Junior Civitan, Key Club, Quill and Scroll, Journalism, and Hi-Y. He received the perfect attendance award for his Junior and Senior years. He was also involved in and lettered in football, basketball, and tennis. He was a talented athlete and an avid sports enthusiast and supporter all of his life.
Randy had many special challenges and handicaps throughout the majority of his life and due to illness was never able to achieve his full potential. He met these challenges with patience, grace, and perseverance. In his younger years, Randy was very disciplined about his own physical fitness and mentored many others with his body building skills. He strongly believed in respecting and valuing one’s body and never indulged in alcohol or other substances. He possessed a very gentle and kind soul, which influenced the many friends that he made throughout his life.
